How do you remove scratches from your metal slide?

Guys, I have some small scratches on my metal slide that I want to remove. Is there any good techique for this? I was thinking of buying metal polish from my local hardware store.
Thanks in advance

What colour/material is it?

Isn't there like a gun touch up pain called Kyron or something around that line

If it's just a scratch, you wouldn't want to go to extremes and paint over the entire slide, if it was bare, ano'd or phosphated or whatever paint would not be an option.

why remove the scratchs? is it for show or something?

How deep are the scratches?

RacingManiac November 16th, 2008 02:11

if it's on polished metal slide you can do it with sandpaper then repolish...

Guys, my slide is shooters design shpd 2 tone. The scratches are on the aluminium parts, But dont get me wrong, what I mean by scratches is not the "scratchy" style of the alumunium but its more like chips (resulting from putting the slide on a dusty and dirty table). The scratches are not deep and they are not even visible when you reflect sunshine through your slide. it is just really bother me to see those small chips and scratches.

I get those all the time, I use a retardedly high-grit sandpaper. Have any 3000 and some polishing compound sitting about?

ichimaru gin November 16th, 2008 03:55

would using higher grit remove the "scratchy looks" ?? I dont want that to dissapear.

You mean, brushed metal finish? I wetsand my Airsoft Surgeon slide when it get scratched with 2000 grit sandpaper from front to back, it keeps the same finish.

ichimaru gin November 16th, 2008 11:12

yes, brushed finish. Thats what im trying to say. So are you recommending 2000 grit or higher?

FOX_111 November 16th, 2008 11:48

A picture would really help here I think.

Fine sanding a brushed finish will give it a shiny/polished look.

Depends how you sand it.

Most "Brushed" finishes will have some sort of "Grain" to them.. It's tricky, but it is possible to mimic the finish by going with the grain with a proper grit sand paper
