ASC Advertisements - Prohibited Device.

Hey, has anyone else noticed that a PROHIBITED DEVICE is being advertised on ASC via all the new ad's on the site?

I'm talking about this one in particular, the Cell Phone Stun Gun.

Wonder what else those ad's will show.

dpvu November 23rd, 2008 16:23

I'm not sure ASC has control over most of these ads. It's just what Google serves them up.

L473ncy November 23rd, 2008 16:26

It's contextual advertising so they don't really have too much control over it. For a while weren't the google ads showing some weird advertisements that had nothing to do with airsoft.

Also, it's mostly targeted to the US, etc.

The internet isn't just in Canada, and the visitors on this forum aren't only Canadians.

Was there a point you were trying to make?

Still beats Fleshlight ads, IMO :P

Hmmm... I dunno...

I might just buy one and launch it out of a 203.... (Yeah I know it's been done before but that was with a dildo... this is different :D )

Mantelope November 23rd, 2008 18:05

If you provide the URL that the ad links to, I can block it. The ads are contextual as well as location based, so whatever you see, the advertiser has likely opted specifically for its inclusion for Canadian viewers.

FOX_111 November 23rd, 2008 20:21

Firefox add-on completely block those things too.

I don't have any adds here and on most other websites.

Moderate November 23rd, 2008 20:30

Ads, what ads? This bar under my name makes me not get ads, now go get one too ;)

L473ncy November 23rd, 2008 20:47

Actually I use the firefox adblocker for most places except I've turned it off here. Honestly, I would click a few ads to support the site no big deal. Other places though... I don't know

Lisa November 24th, 2008 08:34

If it's prohibited wouldn't it be stopped at the boarder?

Blackthorne November 24th, 2008 08:41

Depends on how it's shipped.

If it's a regular mail and doesn't have any declaration on it they won't stop it unless it's randomly tagged for opening and inspection.

From http://www.safetyproductsunlimited.c..._stun_gun.html

*Under the law, Safety Products Unlimited, will not ship to the above mentioned locations. If an order is placed with a restricted address, your purchase price will be refunded.

That's just one company however.

L473ncy November 24th, 2008 10:26

Nice... But since the contextual ad's are based on context and location (as I recently found out) why would they be advertising in Canada if they don't ship there???
