V2 Gearbox Extra Piece

This is the second time I have taken my V2 gearbox apart from my Broxa. This time as I was putting it all together a black rod fell out about 1/2 an inch long and 1/16 of an inch in diameter. I have looked over multiple V2 gearbox diagrams and over the gearbox itself and can't seem to find where this rod goes... if it goes anywhere.

Any ideas?

take a pic, maybe you're talking about a spring guide?

Is it your safety? Look by your trigger and there should be a little piece that can pivot on a screw and stop the trigger from being pulled in safe. With a pic someone will be able to tell you for sure.

it's the gearbox retainer pin. it goes through the lower reciver and gearbox.

In an MP5?

...

Post from the selector switch? It goes through the gearbox on an MP5.

That's pretty firmly affixed to the right side selector switch though.

Oh boy.

MP5 for the selector is attached to one lever. No gun type was mentioned anyways, and I am leaning towards the lower receiver retaining pin for an Armalite............ but it's not 1/2" long. There isn't a gearbox that I know of that has a 1/2" x 1/16th inch black pin inside of it. Just toss it on your spare parts bin.

He said Broxa, which means MP5.

Are you sure that it's from the mechbox? I suspect it's a post from your MP5 body....although it'd be clear plastic (unless you spray painted it).

A pic would be extremely helpful on this one.

Here's a picture

It is metal... it is possible it's a reinforcement for the safety, it does fit in there nicely.

F*ck me...that shouldn't be in a V2, nor a V3 mechbox...

I'm mentally going over an MP5...can't pick it out.

I do suggest you take a look at each of the posts that join the two plastic halves of the upper receiver together...there's several posts that mate up with holes/posts. I think (I really can't remember and I'm not going to the workbench to disassemble an MP5 to check) that some posts have rods like that. It might have pull off a post when you took the MP5 apart.

Do mp5's have mech box centering pin's? could it be that if they do?

Skladfin January 19th, 2009 22:21

huh, isn't that the gearbox retaining pin? it shouldn't be inside the gearbox, just leave it out

TM style MP5's don't. The mechbox is "held" in place to the lower grip with the grip screws (usually 2) and the selector lever. In the upper the hopup unit fits/indexes the front end and the mechbox just sort of sits between the two receiver halves. The grip is held to the upper receiver by the front and rear cross/through pins.

CA style MP5 mechboxes are held much the same...but the lower slides into the upper. Which is nice because you don't need to take so much apart to get to the hopup unit.

At least...that's how I remember it...and it's late...me tired.
