Sound/Noise Reduction Material? [SiG 552]
 

I have this little problem. I dislike noise. Quite a bit actually, even more so when I'm trying to create an environment where someone can't just turn their head and look directly at me due to the shot being fired. I've contemplated just wearing hot-pink & white camoflauge, since I'm sure even that is more efficient for the whole "sneaky-sneaky" thing.

One of the things I'd like to do (along with a very long list of other, more important things to upgrade first) is find a way to reduce the amount of noise/sound that is created per shot. Doesn't need to be dead quiet, but I definitely don't want to sound like a "pimped out" honda civic cruising around at night downtown. If not dead quiet, I want to at least limit it to a murmur to the point where the victim is confused as to where the sound came from.

At first I was thinking of maybe just using noise-reducing paint, the kind that guitarists use when installing a new tremolo to reduce interference from outside sources, but I'm not sure that that product is used for the same purpose (I could be wrong, I've never installed a tremolo [yet]). This has to also somehow fit inside a SiG552, and I'm sure most of you know how crammed it is in one of these, so it's not like I can stuff it full of foam :(

Asphalt based absorption material with aluminum damping backing. Cheap and should help if there is enough room. Foam alone won't do TOO much as its damping factor is directly proportional to relative thickness.

use a sorbo pad with sorbo piston head for ultimate noise reduction.

You do realize most noise comes from the motor and churning of the gears, though a sorbo pad works, there's much more to do.

use an insanely strong motor with a weak spring.

A lipo. The quicker the cycle, your enemy will wonder where that quick "vrut" came from. ;)

If you're going to get a lipo battery, make sure you get the right size that'll fit your 552. I've wasted some money trying to find one that would fit my 552 and found only one that would. That's the FireFox 11.1V 1600mAh Mini Lipo Battery, fits like a glove.

And a sorbo pad and a sorbo piston head like mentioned above already would really silence your gun a bit. Even getting a silencer will reduce some noise.

helical gears and a supressor also add to the quiet factor, my p90 is quite quiet and will be more so once i get the sorbo piston head and cylinder head

You definately won't have room to pad the gearbox, it sits tight as a (insert joke here).

There is a minimal amount of room inside the grip to pad around the motor, but this will undoubtedly reduce the ability for the motor to cool. Sorbo pads, helical gears, silencer, and a PROPER SHIM, MOTOR HEIGHT adjustment.

Ditto that. Plus the Lipo, and you'll get a quicker, quieter (and more reliable) operation
