First airsoft gun

Ok I have never owned an airsoft gun before, the closest thing I own is an old crosman pellet gun lol. I have read around and decided to buy an AEG from buyairsoft.ca since a friend bought the "Ultimate Bolt Action Sniper Rifle" and had nothing but praises for the service. I was thinking of getting the M4 Deluxe
(link: http://buyairsoft.ca/catalog/product...roducts_id=401 ) but I question the quality of the plastic gearbox. I can spend about 160 at max (including shipping) so I dont have a lot of choices.
Can some one recommend me a good AEG if this one isnt up to par.
Keep in mind I am a new player and this is just to play with friends, although they plan to go to local arenas so I didnt want to get completely destroyed lol.

Welcome to ASC.
Good to see more people getting involved in airsoft.
Firstly, most members aren't fans of buyairsoft, they apparently have a bad rep with customer service, I'm sure many have had success with them, much like your friend, but all I've heard is negative feedback.
Airsoft in Canada is an expensive hobby as you will grow to learn more about and $160 really isn't much to start with. The rifle you provided in your link says 'out of stock eta 30 days' thats a big complaint that I've heard from buyairsoft. They don't seem to restock their guns, atleast not in the timeline promised.
I've never seen the gun you speak of but I think you'd be much better off investing into a Kraken(clear bodied AK47) or the Broxa Evolution(clear bodied MP5). Something with solid internals.
I'm unsure of the price for one of those but I think it would be close to your price range.
Best of luck.

I see, thanks for the reply. Is there a better site I can use? I realize 160 isnt much but its all I have at the moment due to financial issues.

I know it is out of stock aswell lol. I figured I could wait cause we are starting in april but if they dont restock I will just look around.

You can get an Aftermath Kraken from Cabelas or something similar for anywhere from $120 to $200, but that's about the least you can spend and still have a decent gun.

HeadlessChicken March 12th, 2009 19:48

Unfortunately $160 isn't much to start for airsoft. I ordered a few airguns from BuyAirsoft with no problems though I don't know about their airsofts, the link you provided didn't even provide the name of the manufacturer so I have my doubts about it. Though its rare, there have been a few guns here in the classified around that price range though even if you won't shop there, getting AV'd can open up access to the retailers who may be able to find something to fit your budget. But I would still recommend saving up more. I'm new to the sport as well and I budgeted just under $1000 for everything, I ended up spending close to $2000 and I'm still adding.

Here is review of the gun done by an ASC member:Aftermath Kraken AK47 AEG - Airsoft Canada
Also capitalairsoft.ca carries them, and at a decent price for Canada: http://capitalairsoft.ca/store/index...roducts_id=161
Also check out the broxa: http://capitalairsoft.ca/store/index...e1936c39c5debc

Enjoy!

ok, that seems like a good friggen deal lol...so should I go ahead and order it?

Muffin March 12th, 2009 19:52

Well not if you don't have the funds haha. But thats the best gun that you'll find for the price your going for.

ty12004 March 12th, 2009 19:59

Its on a huge sale but unfortunately it is on backorder. I got extremely excited when i saw it because it is similar to the one I saw when I was in the states and got to try. Is there any other weapon on cabelas that is decent? cause they seem to have amazing prices compared to buyairsoft.ca plus a bigger selection

Styrak March 12th, 2009 20:05

Looking at the Cabelas website, the "Panther Arms M4A1 Carbine" and "Sig Sauer S-552 Machine Gun" are JG rebrands and would be good quality.

Everything else there, besides maybe the Broxa or Lycoan(iffy on those even), is crap that you shouldn't touch.

Thanks for the help guys, I think I will just wait for the kraken to come back in and pray it is still on sale...hell of a deal, be a shame if I missed it.

THAT kraken is not the good one.

it shoots 380 fps with .20

the real kraken (http://velocityarms.ca/index.php?mai...products_id=94) <----- THAT WAY

this one shoots 370 with .20

its the new and ameliorated version (not that new but still not as old as the cabelas one)

I pretty sure im right but correct me if im wrong

yuhaoyang March 12th, 2009 21:30

Unless calebras has stored Krakens for a year or two, they are exactly the same. New versions are completely TM compatible I think, this includes the hop-up (which in old versions wern't). Take out the screws on the buttplate and JB weld the plastic and metal pieces together, or you'll lose it in a game when the threads strip (which they will cause of the minimal contact area.

I hate to say it, but I own a Panther Arms M4A1 Carbine, and it's a shitty clearsoft springer that broke roughly a month after i got it.

Panther arms re-brands a lot of stuff, the M4A1 Carbine AEG is a JG, while the other ones are either springers or clear mechbox AEGs (I think) While the AEG will be decent (excellent for the money if it is the black mechbox version), the springers are extremely fun, to throw at the people you hate, or to paint pink and use as a loaner. Actually after I make my CA fully functional I might paint my AK pink and stick some "hello kitty" stickers on it, lend to friends.
