TF7 MP7 battery connection problem
 

Hey all,

I'm new to these forums, and airsoft in general, but I'm looking for some advice. I recently bought a TF7 MP7, which upon arrival didn't fire at all. I figured it must've been the battery, so after giving it ample time to charge I popped it back in.

Then it fired- once.

I found that forcefully pushing the battery in with my finger was the only way for it to continuously make contact... but this is far from ideal.

I think I read somewhere that someone with a similar problem was able to disassemble it and bend the connector into shape, but I'm wary of doing this unless it's necessary.


Could anyone cast some light on a possible solution?

I think you've found your solution, unless the connectors on the battery look deformed, the problem likely lies in the gun, even if it's not exactly the same situation as the bent connectors... you're going to (or a gun doctor) have to open the gun up and diagnose the problem, then remedy it.

Since the TF7 is a clone and came with the battery the battery may just be a dud. Happens alot with clone batteries. If you don't hear grinding when you fired then the only way to check is to disassemble the gun bend the connectors. Don't worry they are pretty solid. and reassemble. At this point test fire again. If it still doesn't fire the battery is junk.

Also make a note when disassembling the mp7 as to where the wires go. You do not want them mixed up. A digital camera or cell phone cam comes in handy for this task.

I'm more inclined to think it's a problem with the gun at this point. It can shoot continuously in full/semi, but only when it's forced in there pretty substantially.

I got it shipped to me from SIR/Cabellas, so I could go through the hassle of sending it back (across the country), waiting, then getting a replacement.

But if it's a relatively easy fix, I'd rather not.

I figure if I ever feel like actually playing with other people, I'll get AV'd and peruse the classified. Until then, a (functioning) cheap knockoff will do just fine.

Also, the very slight smell of burning is normal right?

I got my WELL MP7 and it has the exact same problem.

Trying to trouble shoot it at the moment.

I'm kind of worse off than you, even if I press the battery inside with my hands, it still refuses to fire more than a single round

How hard have you pushed?

Because that was my experience at first- pushing did nothing. But exerting enough force right to the center of the battery seems to work.

I'll be home from work soon, then disassembly begins...

Must have been a bad batch. I had a similar problem with mine, also from Cabelas. I checked the battery with a voltmeter and it was fine so I tried bending contacts with no success and then stripped it down. Odd thing is, when I reassembled I got it to fire a burst and then it quit again. I wasn't sure if it was just a battery connection problem or a problem in the trigger assembly so I sent it back for exchange. Incidentally, some nasty metal filings were coating the mechbox, I hope it was only the outside. I guess you get what you pay for! :)

mine had the same issues. I was able to solve it by putting a little piece of cardboard box maybe a size of a quarter just enough to give the battery a push so it hits the connectors.

Yeah, I tried cardboard, and as a temporary fix it worked okay.

I think the final decision to send it back came after I decided to see that would happen if I fired a whole 160 round clip, full auto in one continuous shot.

The mechbox (or something) started smoking. It still fires "normally" even after the smoke, but it's far too disconcerting a problem to keep unresolved.

Back to cabelas for an exchange it goes.

Sorry to say this, but welcome to the wonderful world of Tactical Force guns. They are reknown for being pieces of garbage that break down all the time. The only gun they have that's worthwhile buying is their gas TF11.
