How to clean your gun
 

Now I'm trying to find information on your airsoft gun cleaning needs. I want to know how often I should clean my gun and which parts I should clean more often. I have a Aftermath Lyacon MP5 incase there are specific cleaning needs of a certain gun.

Don't think you looked hard enough - tons of information when you search up on google.

I generally clean the inner barrel after every game as grit can do quite a bit of damage. I also excessively clean the exterior of the gun to keep it pretty, but yeah that's definitely me being anal.

As for the rest of the internals and the mags, I clean them once every couple weeks. Make sure that all moving parts are clear of foreign material and that everything works in harmony!

As far as simple maintenance and cleanin goes, making sure to dry fire your gun once or twice without a mag after every game to make sure the champer is clear and the spring is uncompressed is one thing to do.

For keeping your barrel clean, you can use the supplied cleaning rod if available, and using some fine cloth to groom out the inner barrel to insure that it is dirt free. Be sure to dial your hopup all the way down so you do not accidentally tear the hopup rubber.


If you have been playing in the rain, make sure to wipe down your AEG, and if you are up to it, even take it apart strip and wipe out the mechbox and regrease it as well if you think moisture has gotten inside.

From a safe handling stand point its best to store your AEG without the battery in it. If you have a PTW its especially important that you do not store your gun with a battery in it as it will damage the battery, however this is not the case.

As far as cleaning goes there is only so much you can do, on the note of maintence its good to pop your mechbox once or twice a year just to make sure that everything is lubricated properly, however how often you do it is in direct correlation to how much you fire.

it is totally fine to dry fire once or twice. it's really preventative maintenance as dry fires in semi auto will ensure your spring is uncompressed and no live BB's chambered.

I clean the inner barrel after every game. This just involves running a patch with a bit of silicone oil down my barrel using the cleaning rod, and then running a dry patch through to clean out the excess oil. If the gun got dirty on the outside, then I'll give that a bit of a cleaning too.

For internals, I make sure to get into my mechbox at least once a year (depending on which gun and how much it's been used) clean out and re-lube the gearbox and inspect for wear and tear on internals.

Taking 1 or 2 shots in semi to make sure your spring is uncompressed is one thing. Excessive full auto bursts without ammo is a different monster.
