P90 11v lipo question.

Hey guys just a quick qustion for anyone with expertise. I've basically got a stock p90 a couple upgrades but nothing major in the gearbox. Stock motor I think is an eg1000. I was just wandering if it would take a 11v lipo battery. I want a rather evilly insane rod and was wndering if I upgraded the motor would that work. Systema turbo perhapse?

I was also looking at the specs for lipo batteries. Correct me if I'm wrong but a 7.4 lipo is about the same or better than a 9.6 mini right?? Just looking for rof increases. Like I said imwanting to put an 11 lipo in so will the stock motor survive or will it need upgraded. ?

7.4v lipo 20C is about the same as an 8.4 LARGE battery. Unless you're running a spring over 350fps, I'd be careful using a 11.1v, you could strip your piston.

My m4 was shooting 320fps, Systema Magnum Motor and Modify High TORQUE gears and I got 25 bb's per second with a 7.4v lipo 20C 1600mah. 7.4 is really just fine, 11.1 is stupid fast IMO. :|

I'd be more concerned about the rest of your gun's guts if you're going for an insane high rof than the motor. I'd suggest at the very least installing metal bushings in the gearbox, and perhaps a piston with metal teeth. You may also encounter feed issues and might require a sector gear clip to help with feeding at high speed.

I'm not sure that a 7.4v Li-Po wouldn't give you a huge increase in rof. An 11.1V would though. That would more than likely give you something in the high 20 / low 30 per second range. Just beware because it doesn't take long to empty a mag like that. You run out of ammo real fast.

I already got a polycarbonate piston ready to go and the bushings are in the mail. I'll need to get inside the box and see what other things need changed but the frame is metal and the gears are metal as well so with the metal bearings and polycarb piston it shud be fine right? And I know about the may issue - just looking for some more fun from the little p90 haha. This in the realms of an experiment :D

Be careful to shim the gun correctly, when changing bushings you often have to re-shim the gun for the gears to lay perfectly, and an improperly shimmed gun with a high rate a fire WILL fail very fast.

i've run a 11.1 in my p90 just pre-upgrade to see... stripped piston. so bigger spring is needed. or torque up gears.

Here's a list of all the upgrades I have planned atm for review:

Metal high speed systema gears
Metal bushings
Polycarbonate piston systema
Stainless pistonhead marui upgrade parts

Any ideas on others I would need?

If you want to go all the way, you might want to consider a Systema Turbo motor.

Replace your stock wires. A higher AWG is always a good thing when your putting in a lipo.;)

cringe...me no likey the price :(

i figured somebody mught say that though :(

It's not that bad, just go to your local hobby store and talk to them. If it helps, I will delete my previous post;)

HORRIBLE idea. If something goes wrong, you want a sacrificial part in the mechbox. If you have a piston with all metal teeth you can easily blow an axle on one of the gears. At most a piston with 7 metal teeth but you definitely want the last couple (the first engaged by the sector gear) to be polycarb or nylon.

I just build an M4A1 with SystemA highspeed gears, SystemA turbo motor, and 11.1V LiPo. Its shorting out somewhere so I need to take apart the gun again to find the bad wire so I have no idea if it will run at all.

Crunchmeister April 1st, 2009 15:02

D'OH! Yeah, that's what I meant. One with more metal teeth. But I agree. You want the piston to be the sacrificial part in a mechbox like that. It's gonna be the cheapest part to replace when (not IF) something goes wrong. Chances are, with all metal teeth, you're taking out gears if there's a failure. Those will cost a lot more to replace.

Heh, this maybe true but...

I run an all-aluminum piston in my AUG. The mechbox is not going to fail anytime soon....but when it does....oh well I'll probably want to replace other things anyway (Im talking about years here)
