silicon oil nessecery?
 

i was just wondering if i should be using silicon oil or if it is just a waste of money, and another thing, what exactly do you do with it? thanks

If you're talking about a gas gun, then it's required if you're using propane as a propellant. You put a couple of drops in the nozzle of your propane bottle every 8-10 mags you shoot. It will keep your rubber seals lubricated and prevent them from drying out.

And quite honestly, silicone oil is by far the cheapest thing you will buy in airsoft.

Never a bad thing to keep a decent coating on any moving parts, or on any metal parts if it gets wet.

If the $5 cost of silicone oil that will last a LONG time is a financial burden, then you're really getting into the wrong hobby with airsoft. Silicone oil is the most basic maintenance tool you have, be it with GBB or AEGs.

For an AEG, yes, it is required. Along with litium grease if you plan on doing your own maintenance.

It's like shoe polish, and a Kiwi cloth in the business world. They're almost necessities. I mean you don't have to go all out and polish your shoes till you can shave using them as a mirror but just wipe the dust off and quickly buff your shoes and you'll be good to go for a business meeting. There are super high gloss shoes that you can buy and that's almost like Green Gas, it has the silicone oil already in it.

Likewise in airsoft, you of *need* it if you're planning to actively game it during the season. Or get the "high gloss shoes" and buy Green Gas.

Good analogy but it makes it sound as difficult as polishing shoes... It's far easier even if shining shoes is EASY.

My bottle of silicone oil, that I bought from Airsoft Innovation when they began selling their adaptor, is still 3/4 full after about 3 years.

I ran 3 GBB and 1 gas sniper rifle with propane and oiled my seals EVERY fill with one drop.

Just to show you how a little 3-4$ bottle will last you a long time!

For the most part when I see people in business suits and stuff their shoes are shiny but "dull" at the same time. It appears that it's perfectly acceptable in the business world to just wipe the dust off your shoes and quickly buff them.

It isn't the army you know. They're private sector jobs in the civilian world.

Can i buy silicone oil from any other hardware store like home depot or canadian tire??

i'm not sure but i think they might have a video/tutorial on mechbox.com. if not, i'm sure it's on ASC somewhere...do a quick search on the site and on google for "aeg maintenance".

It's just a short guide with some basic tips on both active and perventative maintenance of your AEG, though it doesn't really get into the maintenance of the internals. Few results down I found this on Arnies:

That deals with reassembling and cleaning your AEG internals. I only skimmed it quickly, but I imagine that's what you're looking for.
