At $500 you could get a used TM m14 with a cheapie scope and 5 mags (or at least... I did), which are -awesome- long range AEGs. Mine, shooting 380, can pump .4's dead straight for about 125feet. And .3's have an effective range of around 150 feet, easily hitting man sized objects at that range.

A good m16 can also give you a good range.

+1 go with a m14, and TM would be the best..

If you think it's like snap shooting with a pump in Paintball you're mistaken (from what I've seen of paintball which was like 2 gamedays with guys using pump markers 4-5 days with people using semi auto and auto markers). You're essentially sitting there instead of popping out and firing off a round then ducking back behind the bunker.

Is the M14 really that good? I mean it *is* a V7 gearbox and those are apparently hell to work with (or so I've read). I'd think that getting a M16 and doing an SPR/DMR conversion on it to make it more of a "sniper rifle" would be a better route since there are tonnes of gundocs who know how to work with V2 gearboxes.

Also are you including "gear" in your $500 budget? You could easily spend 500 on gear and accessories alone depending on if you're a gear whore or not. Cheapest would be to go to a surplus store and buying a simple set of Canadian OD and a few essential accessories for about $80-90.

you can buy a cheapo ghille suit for around $100 at a mil-surp store?
Yeah, $400 I doubt will be able to get you a M14. But then again V7 is structurally superior to the V2.
For $400 you can get a M16 pretty easily (my CA proline came in at that). But it won't be in very good condition, and won't have that many upgrades... If your making a DMR platform, you need atleast a tight bore and new hop-up rubber. I've been looking at a prometheus... But for 2x the price of a madbull, that thing's just pure wallet rape.
IMO I would rather have anything with a motor cage than to feel the pain in my fingers as I attept to screw in a PTS MOE motor plate... ugh...
