Lipo Troubles
 

Hey. I bought a brand new 11.1 V 2200mah 15 C King Arms lipo battery. I bought Huangs $45 lipo charger. I balanced the battery, charged it and the tried it out with a protective circuit board. It fired great for the first 50 rounds or so, then it stopped. I balanced it again, charged it and balanced again. I tried it out again and got maybe 20 rounds. When I pull the trigger I hear a click, seems like theres not enough power. Did I do something wrong or are the products defected?

Do you have a volt-meter? Measure each cell and see if they're close to each other (IIRC as you measure each end of the balancer tab the voltages are additive). When fully charged, each cell should be 4.2v MAX...and they should be all the same regardless.

I did just see one where one of the cells was basically dead...the other two would charge to 4.2 (resulting in a 8.4v pack that just wouldn't work well). We kiboshed that pack right away.

Measure it....don't guess.

I had the same problem as you, i took out the protective circut board and it works like a dream, i put the protective circut board back in and nothing worked.
So those circut boards are doing somthing, i just run my lipo without using it...no problems.

FYI no voltmeter under 5000$ will give you a reading significant to check a LiPo...

The protection board can be the cause, but make sure you charge with the CHARGE lead and use the pack with the Output lead.

That is the way most packs are built when using protective boards.

Would you mind being more precise about the different leads? I don't understand what you mean;).

It works awesomely without the circuit board! I'm scared of over discharging it though...

Why? It's not going to explode. It will just mess up the chemistry and ruin the battery. If it bulges. Have it disposed of.

Charge/Balance Before every game.

Charge/Balance After every game.

Don't fire more shots than you have maH (as a rule of thumb).

from my experience LiPo batteries don't like to be discharged below 9v. Most LiPo chargers have a discharge function...I have discharged batteries to the 9v level and then recharged them and balanced to the 11.1v level and had no problems.....maybe try that....just a thought

It's working fine now, I just won't use the protection circuit board. Thanks for the info guys!

I'd like to clarify that it's 3V per cell, so in the case of an 11.1 it's 9V and a 7.4V it's 6V.
