Running a stock TM on a 9.6v
 

Hi,

Would it damage a stock TM (with metal bushing and 350 fps spring) if it would operate with a 9.6V mini battery? Should I stick to 8.4v?

If it's a V2 mechbox you'll probably going the end up breaking it eventually. I'd consider using a heavier mechbox.

I'd advise against a 9.6... just because it'll eventually strip something or cause a build of of trigger corrosion.

Won't break anything. You get around the same wear from that kind of battery as from a large 8.4v.

I ran a 11.1v LiPo on exactly that setup (still do sometimes too). No damage is showing anywhere.

9.6V batteries tend to cause either the tappet plate to snap earlier (due to increased impact from the faster gear spin caused by the higher voltage), or tearing the ass end off the piston. I've fixed a good dozen AEGs over the years that had premature damage done to them from use of a 9.6V battery. Mind you, they were all upgraded springs which is much harder on the piston teeth due to less sponginess of the spring to absorb the initial impact of the gears on the piston teeth. Tappet damage doesn't matter what spring is used.

My experience and opinion as well, mix with the above guys (Defcon I trust for gun work) opinions and experince that you'll be fine, and draw your own conclusions based upon possible risk/no risk to your internals. Might be fine, might have to replace parts once in awhile that wouldn't be required with an 8.4V.

BTW, I own three 8.4V batteries, and have zero interest in a 9.6V. And I rarely have issues with my guns going T.U. on me from shooting.

if you're just looking for crisper trigger response in semi, you'll be absolutely fine. if you like to hammer on the full auto, you'll notice parts wearing faster.

Stock TM can handle a 9.6v with little to no issues. I know of a couple of AEG's that are bone stock and have been running fine over the years.

I would definitely run the 9.6, the gain is worth the wear. when it breaks down you have a excuse to spend some money on all the wonderful upgrade parts there are.

I personally belive no gearbox should stay virgin!
