what's the right glue for ABS plastic ?

heya!
what's precisely the right glue to strongly bond ABS plastic? is there a glue that melts the plastic before bonding it?

I want to fix the front part of a pistol slide, the part that takes all the shock.
is that even possible?

thank you!

Check Killbucket's stuff...most of his creations are made with ABS and I'm sure he specifies what he uses somewhere in his detailed posts.

I think the right stuff is plumbers cement...there's ABS vs. PVC vs. etc... different curing times, etc... But it'll make a mess of whatever you bond...(or at least my plumbing jobs are a mess to look at...:))

ok thanks

hint: to make nice smooth putty surface, even them with a wet finger. water is the key.

We used to have some stuff that I was told was to repair windscreens on helis. I used it for motorcycle bodywork and it would melt the parts together.

The results were not pretty, it was a looks good at 60 feet or 60 MPH job, but it was strong.

I don't know how good a job it would do on something more precise like the slide.

trust me, the Q BOND is what body shops use to mend plastic body kits etc on cars, and after installation, the cars can take an impact with no difference in deformation of said plastic if it were never injured.

it is by far the best stuff out there.

Why not try hobby cement? The stuff for models?

i promise, Q Bond is by far the best plastic adhesive on the face of the earth. you put this powder on the crack, then drip en eye drops worth of the "bonding agent" on it, and it literally SMOKES for a second, and BAM, it is immediately dry. like, 1-2 seconds, and you are done.

i used it to re attach te tabs on the back of the ground effects on this, and took an impact at ~ 10 mph RIGHT ON THE TAB, and nothing happened...

this is what it looked like at one point....

i re attached the broken off part, bolted her on, and this is the result...

in fact, i redid all of the broken panels (pictured below) and sold the truck for almost a 3000 profit. i told the buyer the ground effects were broken, and he insisted i was lying due to the fact that he couldnt see the seams from where i Q BONDED the parts together. that is how amazing this stuff is!!!!!!!!!

If you:
- ask how she's going to love your nuts
- how you're going to make America thinner one slap at a time
- tell me how much cola I can soak up with it
- how mighty that putty is
- how much metal you can cut off a hammer and still fillet a tomato (come on...honestly? who the F*CK fillet's a tomato?!?!?!?)

...I'm going to petition to have your account banned.:D

...or at least changed to The Q-Man

MikeMcNair September 23rd, 2009 09:09
