silencers-the most noob question ever
 

Hey guy Iwish I dident have to ask this question but im still fairly up in the air about it. Can a silencer really act as a reliable barrel extention?

The silencer itself? No.

If you extend your barrel INTO the silencer? Yes.

Guys put a longer inner barrel (often a tightbore) into their guns for an fps boost and increase in accuracy, then hide it within a supressor. If they take the supressor off, you'll see the inner barrel sticking out of the muzzle by a good amount, looks rather dorky.

A metal outer barrel would be better for an extension because it would stabilize the inner barrel (for accuracy) better. If your gonna use a can, at least make it useful for it's intended purpose. Peace.

why not? I'm running a 16 inch tightbore barrel under a 14.5 inch outer barrel and through a silencer. and I've had no issues

believe me, you only need about 2" of actual suppressor so quiet the gun lol
My VSR-10's barrel comes to about 3/4" from the end of the suppressor, and it still has an effect on the sound

since i have the TM AUG a2 commando (short version) Id like to change between a long version and the commando version during games without alot of work ..the silencer i want comes with a proper flash hider for fast attachment and removal

What's the point? Silencer in airsoft doesn't do much in silencing. It's mainly for looks and/or cover up the extended inner barrel.

I already know they dont really silence the AEG thats why I asked if they made good barrel extension without having a barrel covered up by it...

Not true. While it depends on the gun, a supressor can be very effective. Look at both the TM MK23 NBB as well as the P90. My P90 with the suppressor is significantly quieter, and even harder to locate by sounds with the supressor.

I was thinking of buying a second upper receiver for the aug and be able to quickly switch between a standard aug and the short cqb setup however it falls through with the cylinders. the shorty needs a ported the full doesn't. short-barrel with non-ported = damaging the mechbox, long-barrel with ported = drop in fps.

so switching in the fields is not a very viable option with the aug.

Short barrel with full cylinder is a good 30fps drop. Damaging to the mechbox.......... no. Long barrel with ported cylinder, drop in fps due to the vacuum created behind the BB when the cylinder can't at least equalize the volume of air in the barrel. At least you know the basics to a point of why you cant easily switch between the two outer barrels while keeping the same cylinder, but you can come up with a compromise solution.

I understand they both drop fps, I also read that it is damaging. If this is incorrect I'll be grateful for the correction. and this is from memory.

The short barrel means the resistance applied to the piston and spring will be removed once the bb leaves the barrel. Because the spring hasn't met full potential at this point (and from what I understand because it isn't moving at full speed in the beginning while the bb is being launched is why it loses fps) the full force of the piston and spring slam into the mechbox essentially as if you were dry-firing. And that would be bad.

If not then you helped debunk another airsoft myth :)
