JG M4A1 Misfire/Dry Fire?
 

I was out shooting my Jing Gong M4 outside yesterday when I noticed it was not shooting very consistently - even though the magazine (hi-cap) was wound up all the way, a few random rounds would be blank, or pathetically fall out of the barrel.
The battery was fairly charged, I was only using it for around 10-20 minutes. (Not constantly shooting, obviously).
Like I said before, the mag was fully wound, but I have had a big problem with the coil spring in the past. The part of the spring that held onto the gear snapped, I had to pull the end of it through to hold it.
I think it could be a magazine problem, but do you think the weak shots could be connected to the dry-firing? I'd appreciate any ideas.

First of all, get rid of the goddamn hicaps. They are evil, and whenever they are near your gun, it's suceptible to explode.

That being said, if Bs were falling out of the barrel, you probably didn't have your hopup tuned up enough.

Did those that were actually shot go approximately at the same range?

Probably got a round stuck in the barrel. Stick a jam rod down there.

I don't recommend using a cleaning rod unless you're sure there's a BB stuck. That could potentially damage the hopup rubber.

And, if it happened a few times I'm convinced it's not a stuck BB.

The BB's that don't go anywhere usually fly about 5-10ft, with little power - whereas regular ones will obviously go farther.
I haven't really had any BB's that literally fall out, so it's probably not the hop-up. I don't think the BB's are getting stuck either. The sound is a very distinctive dry-firing noise, not the muffled sound a jammed gun makes.

Anyways, I cleaned the barrel, even though it might not be the main problem it might still improve it. The battery is charging, so I might have to test it out some more to see what the problem is, or if it's still there. Thanks for the replies so far!

I have the same problem with my gun at the moment also. I'm pretty sure it's the hop-up bucking. Replace the stock JG bucking with a Guarder one and you should be good.

Definitely you are thing right because you was just use it for 20 minute and there is no problem regarding to battery so just check out magazine and service it in proper way it will works properly as your experience of first time.

I know it's been a while since I posted this, but I haven't really gotten a chance to test it out. Well whatever it was, it seems to be fine now. I just took it out back and it shot fine. Weird. It could have been the barrel, who knows. I still don't know how it could just randomly dry fire.

Anyways, from now on I'm going to start maintaining my guns properly, starting with keeping the batteries out when not in use and cleaning the barrel more often. Hopefully this will make a big difference in the future. Thanks guys!

Put a few drops of oil down the loading tube (of the hop up unit) and cycle it, then try firing again. If it improves, lack of lube was the issue. If it acts the same way, then good chance your hop up rubber needs to be replaced.

i think paintball guns use the same stuff for 0- rings so visit a paintball store and pick some up and ask.
