I'd say work on your skills first(No, honestly). People usually think that if they have a crazy performing gun and really nice expensive gear, then they can easily own everyone on the field.
It's really not true, the skill of the operator themselves goes a long way. There are guys who can have firefight against AEGs only with a pistol and still win.
That being said, I would suggest getting the gear first. Having the gun shooting at Lower FPS forces you to rely more on your skills than your gun.
