Talking to an RCMP Officer about airsoft today and this topic came up.

Do you think it's possible to get an AEG to fire at 790 FPS? I know that this would make an AEG a firearm, a fully automatic firearm, in the eyes of the law which is a PROHIBITED firearm.

This is one of the main reasons that this particular officer is afraid of concerning our sport.

It can be easy for a Gas "Sniper" rifle to be upgraded to those speeds but that would just make it a normal "firearm" and would need to be registered.

No idea on full automatic gas Carbines or assault rifles and I didn't bring this fact up.

But this officer is worried about the AEG's (his son is getting into airsoft and the officer likes the idea but the legal aspect for him is worrying being an peace officer) and asked me if it's possible. I've never heard of it done (who would be stupid enough to admit it) but I couldn't even tell him if it was possible.
