I've heard that if you wear out a certain part of a GBB too much (just through regular use) it *may* become full auto... Maybe I heard wrong but that's kind of what it sounded like. I'll try and bring up the post I saw it in.
With the part that I am considering producing, the modification is fully reversible and non-destructive. You only have to swap back to the original part.

If you're referring to the mods that re-work the sear and/or hammer, I highly recommend AGAINST that mod, as it's not safe and is destructive.

When the sear and hammer is re-worked to achieve full auto, the user is essentially removing the safety features that are inherent to the 1911/2011 design, and the hammer/sear engagement is also more precarious. The number of shots released is also unpredictable and the gun may continue firing after the trigger is released. Accidental discharges can happen once this modification is done. For safety reasons, I suggest nobody do this mod.

If you're referring to self-modification of the blowback unit, that can be done, but it's work that not everybody can perform to a high degree of accuracy in machining (a Dremel tool doesn't cut it if you want to do it well), and it requires more than cutting away material. Material also needs to be added.

In any case, self-modification of the blowback unit can be done, but you're still working with a heavier part. My initial point of this project was because the product is lighter than the OEM part, so that additional benefits are achieved (faster cycling speed and lower gas consumption.)
