Well if the holster covers the trigger guard then it's IPSC legal (the holster at least). As for the ar well for sure it puts you in open class (break, optics)and if it's going to be allowed then it's all up to the MO that runs the event because the real problem is that your 223 is going to punch holes in the steel plates and popers add the very distinc possibilities of ricochets. Fangible ammo is a must for safety reasons so expensive....Running a pistol calliber ar would solve that problem but if you use 9mm then your shooting minor ( not good for points unless you push the 9mm enveloppe to hit the major power factor) but you have 10 rounds (with the ar pistol mags) but if you run other caliber ar's like 45 your stuck with 5 unless your setup usses pistol mags.
I used my 7.5 inch 9mm ar for ipsc in a level 1 fun match and it was hoots of fun.... of course my score was shit but hell I do IPSC for fun and not the score
