The lower base magnification, the better. Because this is what you'll be using to do most of your shooting. Having a zoom option is useful, too.
The reason you want a lower magnification is simply because airsoft doesn't have the range required for any sort of magnification beyond 4x, having more visibility to shoot with (A good FOV makes great for sniping, easier target acquisition and etc.). Zoom would just be used to 'scout' and see things in the distance more easily
