My scope is set on 5x most of the time, is very useful. I'll dial it to 3x when I need to scout a wider area when gathering intel, and I'll dial in 9x when I am scoping well past my shooting distance (a couple places I play have over 500ft line of sight) when on recce/overwatch for my team.
Also, a larger objective lense will gather more light, making it easier to use the scope in low light or even at night (provided there is some moonlight around). Better glass works better in the latter.
