I've worn the Bates Goretex in all weather, all year round, and was never let down; they aren't as light weight as some other boots I still find them more comfortable than anything else I've worn, including some hiking shoes (Marrell Moab Goretex, Columbia Tigertooth), especially if I'm wearing them a long time/walking a lot.

I went thru a lot of correspondence to get one of the Corps members on base to pick me up the non-civilian EAG stamped USMC 550's from Belleville - they are basically similar to the temparate 790s; no drainholes, Goretex, etc - sweet sweet boot. The same 'correspondence' sent me the issue BATES as well - I ended up selling them right after trying them on for the first time.
Mind you this was way back when MarPat was new like Multicam and the issue stuff was not easy to get. Thing might have improved since then.
