So Ive been wanting to do this review for awhile but havent had the time to do so, until now. So here it goes.
PRICE: $460
INCLUDES:
Fore Grip, 7 inch src rail system, 300 round full metal high capcity magazine, cleaning/unjamming rod, crane stock, carrying handle, and Rail covers (no battery or charger)
Externals:
so this is where my biggest issues with the src guns accur. at first glance and feel the gun feels very solid but after closer inspection i noticed the following problems,
-Almost every single screw (including those holding the gear box together) were stripped
-the mag catch is angled into the lower reciever
-the charging handle broke after some use (the plastic piece holding the charging handle to the fake bolt that is)
-the reciever pins are not very tight in the gun and the screws holding it on the oppisite side came stripped aswell
-the steel barrel came stock extremely loose and needs tightening, but on the brightside its a great looking one piece barrel
-the two piece metal rail (either steel or an aluminum mix) wobbles, the lower piece is about 1mm to small and is to loose in between the delta ring and the hand guard ring
-the aluminum upper reciever has weak tabs and lots of src owners have broken theirs, mine even came straight from "insert store name here" with broken tabs
-class fiber lower reciever molding is poor and wobbles alot, aswell is has paint fades and most importantly, it broke at the reciever pin holes
-buffer tube is strong (not sure what kind of metal) but not milspec
-stock wobbles a bit but not enough to warrant a new stock
-it being a rear wired gun, the wires came assembled running through the lower reciver back tube which makes changing the reciever a big problem
Internals:
pretty good internals, the gear box and motor are definatley the best part about the gun
-see
http://www.007airsoft.com/gngvssrc.htm
for internal review
-6.04mm inner barrel has a factory defect causing the barrel to be built with a slight bend
-super high torque motor runs like a champ
Performance:
this gun shoots 400 fps out of the box due to its M120 spring. Feeding is flawless but I havent really tested lots of mags in it. personally i use MAG brand full metal mags, and magpul PTS PMAGS. Trigger response is average so make sure you complete a trigger pull or you wont finish cycling a bb and your next shot will be a double feed. this gun shoots about 16 RPS which i think is perfect.
Take down:
the take down of the src m4 is the most annoying part of all. something as simple as "cracking" open the recievers to change the barrel and hop up is IMPOSSIBLE!!! To achieve this you have to do a full take down taking off the buffer tube, grip, pins, etc. then you have to remove the lower reciever and carefully slide the upper off of the lower, and all this assuming you found a way to remove the wires from the lower reciever back tube (i cut my reciever open after intense frustration.....and i had a replacement one anyways).
Personal required mods:
Being pretty OCD myself i had to replace and fix everything about the gun the was broken, so heres the mods i did
-replaced stock upper with VLTOR style upper
-replaced stock lower with a self painted src gen 3 2.0 glass fiber lower (still a minor so i cant get a metal lower yet)
-removed broken charging handle inner attachment, fake bolt, and replaced the spring with a reverse spring, i.e. the dust cover and charging handle perform like a G&G
-dremeled out cut out in the lower reciever back tube to run wires through it
-replaced stock rail with madbull noveske 10 inch free float rail
-replaced stock inner barrel with systema precision inner barrel
-added other asthetic parts like magpul moe grip, ca vltor mod stock, etc.
Conclusion:
My overall opinion of this gun is that it is a hassle if your serious about airsoft or want to get your moneys worth. for the more casual airsofter, or the airsofter on a budget its good especially since the internals are very good. But if your more serious about airsoft (i.e. you take care of your guns, replace stock parts, etc.) then your much better off going with something like VFC, CA, ICS, KWA or even G&G. Price is OK but i ended up spending 230 bucks on parts that needed replacing due to brakage or its pure stupid design.
for the casual airsofter i give it a 7/10
recomendation for the casual airsofter is to go with a new full metal G&G rifle. the internals may not be as great but the casual airsofter is likely not going to wear down the internals as much
but for the serious more dedicated airsofter i give it a 4/10
recomendation for the serious airsofter, go with a ICS or VFC, price is higher on VFC but they are solid, no question.
