Alright the problems were fixed with the generous help of Cottoni. Solutions to both problems for future reference:
A.) The 8.4v battery I was using did not have enough voltage to cycle the spring, I swapped for a 9.6v from Cottoni and internals are meshing prefectly.
B.) The hop-up had to be replaced after I cracked the syetem pulling the inner barrel out.
