It's fine for mechbox wiring too. You are just charging with the adaptor, so even smaller wire gauge would be fine, but going with #18 or #16 for your adaptor would be useful for using on your gun itself.

Wire resistance is measured per 1000ft, so the resistance you are looking at is barely anything, looking at my chart #18 has a reistance of 6.50 ohms, #16 is 5.15 ohms....... per thousand feet. You'll have more resistance in the Tamiya plug connections that you'll see in a couple inches of wire.
