Cobra radios have a slew of issues with them once they have been shorted out on their chargers or by some other means example i have a set that you can turn on but cant send or recieve everytime you push a button it resets itself another set has the same issue you have and now the new set i have is starting to act up in the way that if you PTT they change channels.
That was the last set of cobras i bought just picked up a set of motorola's seem to be a much better product
