The underlying concensious I've heard from team mates and friends are that shell ejecting shotguns are really expensive, really finicky, and really fun. When they break, they require a rather in depth knowledge of gas gun mechanics to fix, so it's not for the faint of heart.

I've fired a buddy's Marushin 8mm, and it was awesome. Loads of fun. But my understanding is that he has spent a long time getting it that way.

I am not familiar with the newer shell ejecting shotguns, but to my understanding, they function like the real steel, only with monkey metal parts on the extractor and it is prone to breakage.

This is all second hand information, so that it with a grain of salt. But if it's worth anything, in 2 years of solid indoor CQB gaming... I've never seen a shell ejecting shotgun skirmished.
