I had numerous G36s in various lengths over time.
The SL8/SL9 is not any longer than a full sized G36. Barrel length is the same and overall length is also the same with the stock open.
I never fold my stock on my rifles, so it's not that bad.
Other than the upper and lower receiver, every other part is G36 compatible. So you can install a free-float G36 RIS with a large silencer if that is what you want. It also takes regular G36 mags as well as the small 20rnds mags. You can also install a M4 mag adapter just like on any other G36.
Good luck finding one. Last time I saw one pass it sold for 700$ with no mags and no upgrades.
Star/Ares quality is up there at the top for G36s in my opinion. Way better than even CA which is what everyone seems to be crazy about. I personally had a Star G36K in the past and nothing beats that one in quality.
If you want to build it to a marksman rifle, it is easy to do so. Mechbox is version 3 and takes all standard parts. It is also a lot sturdier than a V2 that is used in M4s/M16s.
Takedown is not that different from any G36. You have to first remove the magwell pin and the magwell. Then remove the rear pin/screw (I don't remember what was used on the Star) and then the upper can be removed.
Problem with this gun is the battery space. Even if it has a large stock, it is completely full with the adjustment mechanism. You must use a small 9.6v mini pack or a small LiPo pack.
