Last few CAs I handled where really disappointing. Maybe I was unlucky, but the last one was not even aligned properly. The handguard was stopping about 1/4" before the molding of the receiver and the finish was nothing special.

The Star one on the other hand had a very high percentage of nylon in the plastic compound and was rigid as hell. Even the slight greenish tint that the real G36s have. I don't know about the conversion kits though.

As for ARES, I think the quality of their stuff is lower than what Star used to be. I ordered a replacement hop-up unit and it was really cheap, no where like the one I had in my Star rifle back then.

You cannot order a conversion kit online from outside Canada, it includes a receiver and will be seized at customs. And no, you cannot install the stock on a regular G36 receiver.

All SL8/9 are full auto. The marking is not present on the receiver and the selector won't click in place, but it can be pushed to the auto position anyways. Difference between the SL-8 and SL-9 is in RS. The SL-9 is the civilian version, sporting a different trigger group, handguard and top rail. The airsoft version has a weird handguard that can be replaced with any G36 part. The top rail is an extended rail that goes up to the end of the handguard with iron sights while the SL-8 have the regular G36C rail with no iron sights.

If you are looking for a DMR, the SL-8 is a very good idea. It can be upgraded very easily and have a unique look. The SL-8SD version is simply fitted with a G36K handguard and barrel, plus a long silencer.
