It's grossly more expensive, and measurably heavier than current SAPI/kevlar combos, but it's classified as level 5 body armor. SAPI plates by nature can't achieve level 5 protection.
One ceramic plate isn't nearly as effective as numerous small ones.

Guess I am an idiot. And I call bullshit on the 'One ceramic plate isn't nearly as effective as numerous small ones.' I have seen multiple hits by 7.62x39 on ceramics, and a ceramic plate stop a 7.62x54R, both soldiers in question were uninjured and they returned fire after the hits. Thanks, I will stick with my lighter, proven, SAPI/kevlar stack.
