$600 will get you an excellent AK. My VFC AK74 cost me $550, but you can get a Classic Army AK74 for ~$100 less if you don't want to splurge on sexually arousing externals.

An inexpensive, but used and plastic Tokyo Marui AK47 can be found for $300.
