I've personally had the chance to compare gen1, 2 and 3 side by side
You can get away with using gen2, it's pretty awesome and WAY better than gen1. But gen3 does absolutely blow everything out of the water.
But if you're getting gen1, get yukon. They're tubes have no noise and are clearer than most gen 2.
