Never had an issue with any G&P pinion gears, even M120s, and I've worked on a lot of G&Ps
Like Azathoth said, check your motor height. If the proper motor height can't be achieved, re-shim your bevel gear closer to the motor.
While you're in there, you should re-shim all the gears properly if it hasn't been done already
