For home-tempering small parts:
Heat until red-white (with a regular propane torch, it takes about 15 seconds to get there... try to make the whole piece, not just the joint).
Remove the end of your kitchen tap (the air injector thing). Open cold water just enough so that there is no bubble but not spraying everywhere.
Put your hot piece under the stream for at least 30 seconds. Make sure that all the piece is covered by the stream.
Then place on a thick piece of metal (I use an old cast iron pan), and put in over at maximum.
If you have a self-cleaning oven, put on self-clean.
Let it there for an hour, then turn off the oven and LET IT COOL without opening the door.
Next morning, your piece is ready.
It worked for RC cars leaf springs I made from binding straps..
