Modify has a similar issue with their deans connectors. They either changed suppliers or altered their production to include the little ridges to add grip when separating them.
The new ones are extremely tight fitting with the old ones but work fine if both sides are new. So much so that sometimes it seems as though they will never fit. After you work them in, they are all fine.
