Yeah I did this and what happens is the piece comes down pushes the release valve and stays there.
Something I noticed that was pretty sure never happened with my m9 is you have to cock the hammer back with your thumb or rack the slide so it will fire. You just can't pull the trigger back and have it get the hammer set up to hit the release valve.
