You probably installed the trigger unit wrong or bent something.

The selector plate will do 3 things:
Push a plastic lock in safe position.
Make the electric contact on semi/auto, and break it on safe (electrical safe, not all guns have it).
Pull the cut-off lever in auto-position, to prevent it from tripping the trigger block.

Your feeding problem might be caused by a too tight tappet plate or nozzle, or incompatible parts.

As stated, the trigger block should not bounce back if the cut-off lever is not tripped. the pin of the lever should be under the trigger block in normal operation, and pushes the block up when tripped, making it slip past the trigger.
