I guess you missed Steaths demo of the r-hop.. have you open up your mp5 before?
The hop up causes a nub to protrude into the inner barel which will nick the bb and cause it to spin upwards. Like a curve ball, it'll arc into the direction of spin. The upward spin will neutraluze the downward force of gravity for a while leading to greater distances.
Too bad you didn't ask yesterday I coulda pop apart my pdw to show you the hop up unit.
The first two upgrades for me on my aegs is battery and hopup
