Having a longer wire will contribute very little to the resistance, even 1 extra meter of crappy 22 gauge wire will contribute ~0.05 ohms in series with the motor (
source) so it shouldn't present any inherent problems. Depending on how the gun comes apart, you may need a bunch of extra connectors and this can be problematic if at any point you have a weak contact.
