Not sure if this replica has the same functionality, but for the real steel doctersights, there is a light sensor on the front of the RDS. In a bright setting, the RDS will automatically adjust the LED output to maximum. As ambient light decreases, so will the LED output strength.
There is no brightness adjustment knobs or switches, nor are there any power switches. It is turned off by attaching the cover, which shrouds the sensor completely. The real steel versions will never turn off. There will always be a very small amount of light output, but apparently, the amount of energy it draws is negligible.
From the looks of the pictures, this replica also has a hole on the front where the sensor on the real steel is located.
