Depends.
Officers in the 10st and other US units (IIRC) used a vertical stripe on the back of their helmets to show others that they were an officer. Non Coms used a horizontal stripe for the same purpose. The idea behind this was that you could know who was in charge without having to check rank, etc.
The Spade/ Club etc tag was, again, IIRC, a symbol to denot different Batallions within the Regiment. Your best bet would be to pick a specific coy or Batallion to mimic and go from historical photos.
