To be totally honest, you're better off saving your money and spending it on a better model, GEN 2/3. There's just only so much gen. 1 can help you with. I've went through 3 units so far, and I'm currently with a set of ANVIS (I believe) goggles in gen. 1. A nice unit all around, but it's still gen. 1, and it cost me way past the $1000. I'm looking to be upgrading very soon. That being said, most all NV is the same, but made by a different company. For the most part, if you're spending $500, you'll be getting an okay piece of kit.
