Yeah, the FAMAS was TM first true, working AEG. I have a friend who plays at a field, and he says they have had many FAMAS(es) there for rent for 8-10 years or so. They are tuff and can take a beating, even the n00bs would use them, and they even survived that. They are still running on that field with OEM parts. But like everyone else is saying the internals are getting harder to find. The body is all plastic which is a no no for me. As the G36 is also plastic but it is a different material I belive. But in the Real-World the G36 is really made of composite material, so I dont mind the fact it is plastic. If I were you I would buy a newer AEG, like you were saying you liked the G36. It will be way more cheaper if you break it or want to upgrade it. Plus it is more modern. (ex. the 20mm rails, looks, the ver. 3 gearbox). The G36 is a very good choice and that should be all that you need to get started.
