You have to have boatloads of patience.

You have to develop the ability to read the layout of your field in order to position yourself in a place where you can observe areas onto which enemy units will have to move through to patrol or complete objectives.

You must develop an understanding of how camoflage, cover and concealment work to be able to melt into the environment and remain undetected so as to report on enemy movement and initiate contact only in situations that are advantageous to your team.

If that is something that can make up for the periods of inactivity for you during a game, then maybe sniping will be satisfying for you. :borg:
