I'm having the exact same issue with my own plastic barrel and PGC Springfield Operator slide. The only apparent difference for me was that the butt end of the ejection port on the slide sticks out a bit more than the stock plastic slide thus causing the butt end of the barrel to suffer. I first noticed the paint beginning to flake off and now the plastic itself is beginning to chip. I'm getting a Guarder replacement for my 5.1 which will probably take the rest of the year for me to get right due to my lack of free time.
