A winding system uses a large reservoir to hold BBs and a winding mechanism to feed them into the AEG. A spring system holds BBs in a long channel and use a long spring to feed the BBs into the AEG.
Winding system, normally called hicaps, holds many hundreds of rounds but rattles like crazy when moved and requires periodic rewinding. Spring system, normally called midcaps (less than 200), locaps (less than 100) and realcaps (~30 or less) hold considerably less BBs but don't rattle.
They're only better than each other depending on your tastes.
