No real way to tell how much gas is left other then firing it to see what type of distance your getting.

If you just want to see if there is any gas at all though, press in the gas valve slightly (use a pencil or something, or you might freeze your finger tip off). If no gas releases, then your empty and probably have a leak. Although if your filling it and its leaking you can usually hear and or see it doing so........
