I had the same problem with a Sanyo 8.4 volt 2400mah large battery in my AK.

Once you get beyond 1800 mah (the size recommended by and designed for Marui), the cells become physically longer - too long to fit in the AK's stock.

My solution was to (carefully) cut the shrink wrap off the battery, remove the black plastic "cap" that the battery wires pass through, then take the battery ack to a battery shop and had them re-shrink wrap it. Then, I just threw some electrical tape over the exposed battery leads to prevent a short. That plastic cap adds just enough additional length that the battery wouldn't fit, but once I took it off I could cram it in.

If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, take it to your local battery store.
