Sorry, but this is patently false information. You don't have to do anything to a TM to make it skirmish-worthy other than add ammo and battery. Certainly, adding metal bushings will add to longevity, but I have a stock TM P90 with about 65,000 rounds through it that still functions flawlessly. TM guns don't generally *need* upgrades to perform well.
For some reason an awful lot of new players seem to think that a 360 fps chinese knockoff is automatically "better" than a 300 fps Japanese original. I beg to differ. FPS is not the be-all and end-all for determining an airsoft gun's overall performance. FPS does not make your gun more accurate or even necessarily give it more range - inner barrel quality, hopup quality, and airseal do. These are all common problem areas with Chinese clones, but usually not with TM guns.
If you have a lot of experience rebuilding guns and are looking for a cheap platform for a project gun in which you are going to end up swapping out a majority of parts anyways, then the Chinese clones are good place to start. True, there are a few Chinese clones that are "near TM quality", but there are also a lot more that are crap - it depends on the model, the production run, the manufacturer, and sometimes whether the stars have aligned properly.
The bottom line is if you're looking for something that will shoot well EVERY SINGLE TIME you pull the trigger, you won't find any better than TM.
That said, the JG AK's are a very good deal for the money. They usually require degreasing and reshimming of the gearbox, but other than that they are quite solid.
