its mounted on my OTV, I have foam where the soft armor should be, and 2 thicknesses of foam where the plate should be. It's very stiff so it doesn't wobble. Although it's not necessary to get a plastic SAPI plate (which are really uncomfortable!), you should back it with high density closed cell foam. As long as the panel your mounting it on is stiff the pistol won't flop around
